Managing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
9:30am - 4pm

Employment relationships are ever changing. Stress at work claims are on the rise. Employers have a legal duty to protect employees’ health, safety and wellbeing. But supporting those with mental health conditions that you cannot see or do not fully understand can be difficult.
If your role includes HR or you’re a manager, how do you maintain employee engagement, productivity, wellbeing and curb sickness absence concerns when you’re not medically trained? How do you ensure that the business isn’t exposed to an employment tribunal claim? We can help.
Royds Withy King has teamed up with Bath Mind to train your HR team and managers on managing sickness absence and wellbeing in the workplace. The course will be run by Sally Cook, Mental Health First Aid Trainer, and Pip Galland, Employment law solicitor, and will cover the following topics:

Part 1: Mental Health First Aid (Morning)

how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health concerns in your team
how to have sensitive conversations with staff and build a supportive culture
where to signpost staff to professional external help
how to support and manage staff experiencing stress
how to remain resilient to dealing with mental health issues at work.

Part 2: Employment law (Afternoon)

what your legal obligations are as an employer
how to avoid disability discrimination and other employment claims
how to manage sickness absence / capability
how to obtain medical evidence and what questions to ask
when to make reasonable adjustments.

The course will include practical scenarios in which you can apply your learning. At the end of the session you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss your thoughts on the different scenarios you are likely to come across in practice.Detailed workbooks, breakfast and lunch are all provided during the day.

2017 Climate Change Round-Up and Experience Exchange ; how have you gone a bit greener this year?
7:30pm - 10:30pm

Devastating droughts, floods, fires and hurricanes - but a massive escalation in renewable investment and serious developments in batteries. Where does 2017 leave us in terms of our climate change goals?
Nikki Jones MSc, independent researcher and writer on energy, will be giving a brief overview of the year.
Following this brief update, Nikki will lead an information exchange on your experiences of cutting your carbon footprint. How easy was it to change your electricity supplier? Move to cleaner transport? Cut your heating or your meat and dairy consumption? Join the circular economy? Cut your waste or plant a tree? Divest or positively invest?
Whatever your experience, big or small - and even if you're still wondering what to do and simply want to hear from others - please come along and share. What are the obstacles? Let's learn from one another and make change in 2018 a reality.
This is a FREE event, starting at 7.30pm.

Badminton (Bristol)
The Bath & Bristol Everything Meetup Group
8pm - 9pm

Badminton is booked for 8:00pm on Thursday 30th November (Main Hall court 1) at Kingsdown Sports Centre, Portland Street, BS2 8HL. All are welcome, it's a 60 minute long session and we may head to a nearby pub afterwards.

Please let me know if you are going to attend by Wednesday at the latest. I would prefer that we have at least 4 players, otherwise I may cancel the booking.

Note: When arriving at reception you will need to say that you're attending a badminton session in my name (Matthew Barker). Also, they may require that you to sign up for a (free) Everyone Active membership.

See you there,
Matt ([masked])

Q: How does it work?
A: It's pretty informal, but I would like to know in advance if you are going to attend. (If, by the day before the booking, fewer than 4 people say they are going, I may cancel the booking.) On the day, just turn up in the sports hall with your kit at the booked time and we'll play as many games as we can in the time, rotating through the available players after each one. Usually we play doubles up to 11 points, but this can vary depending on the number of players. Afterwards, we often go to a nearby pub afterwards for a drink and a chat.

Q: How often do you play?
A: Usually every two weeks.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Between £1 and £5 per session, depending on how many people turn up, but usually between £1.50 and £2.50.

Q: What is the standard of play?
A: This is hard to specify, but it's mixed and generally not high, so a novice shouldn't find it too challenging.

Q: Who can attend?
A: It is open to all (and usually has a combination of men and women). Come along and see if it suits you.

Q: I'm new to the group, how can I find you?
A: Sometimes the expected court number will be specified in advance, otherwise if you don't fancy asking around, you can let me know you'll be coming and I can arrange to meet you.

Q: What parking facilities are there?
A: The sports centre has its own car parks and there is usually on-street parking nearby. There are also bicycle stands outside the entrance.

Q: Can I just turn up for the pub afterwards?
A: Of course, though we don't always go and the choice of pub can vary so it's best to let me know in advance.

Q: Do I need my own racquet?
A: Preferably, though you can hire one from the sports centre (currently for £2 with £5 deposit). For newcomers, I can sometimes bring a spare on request.

Q: What type of shuttles are used?
A: Feather shuttles are provided and included in the session cost.

Q: What rules do you play with?
A: We usually play using 'rally point scoring', i.e. points are scored regardless of who serves, and when the serving side loses a rally, the serve changes immediately to the opponents. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badminton#Scoring_system_and_service.
Cocktails and Giggles
Central Bath Girls' Night Out Meetup
8pm - 11pm

Please note this evening is the same as ‘Bath Girls’ night out’. I found a fun place- Circo Bar & Lounge on George St. Central Bath and on Thursday’s it’s Cuban night so it should be fun!! The music starts at 8pm.
So If you’re new to Bath or have lived here all of your life, single or in love, and would like to mix-up your social circle by meeting some interesting, international, educated, smart, fun, travelled women from ages 30-55 then why not. Saying that, age is not an issue- being fabulous is!
The objective is to establish some friendships or just be in the company of girls you think are pretty cool - a bit ‘Sex in the City’. Glam, fun and exciting!
Life can be a blast if we find a great group that doesn’t stop laughing! We can hook-up at a cool restaurant for cocktails and or food.
When we have the first night out on November 30 we can decide where and when the next night can be. I’m playing it by ear to see what kind of response I’ll get. It’s going to be fun!

Pencil To Paint
27th September - 13th December

“I think that painting today is pure intuition and luck.”
Francis Bacon on Matthew Smith (1909-1992)
For most of us, our relationship with art begins with a line. We take a pencil or a crayon and delineate our idea. In our enthusiasm, we may even attempt to colour it in. In the experience of many, that attempt leads only to disappointment. We know that a painting is more than just a coloured-in drawing, but how do we do it? What exactly is the difference?
This ten week course explores the gulf between drawing and painting and then seeks to provide a bridge between the two disciplines. Beginning with simple pencil studies, we will then develop our work in both charcoal and ink, gaining confidence in our abilities, before embarking on five weeks of painting in bold colour.
This course is open to all-comers and is ideal for beginners or those who wish to take their art in a new direction.
Topics will include:
Line, measurement and proportion
Tonal value
Colour: theory and mixing
Tables and chairs and a roll of newsprint paper are provided. Please bring a drawing board, paper or pad and your preferred drawing media. Materials required for sessions using colour will be discussed nearer the time.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available for a small donation.
16:30 to 18:00
Wednesdays  27 September; 04, 18 October; 01, 08, 15, 22, 29 November; 06, 13 December 2017
Membership - Bath Business Partnership
12th February - 2nd January

This is not a one off event. Membership is £600 per year and can be payable annually. This includes 4 dinners per year with guest speakers from the political and business world at each dinner.  There will also be an opportunity for each dinner to be sponsored.
Bath needs small and medium size companies to prosper; they are the backbone of our economy. Bath Business Partnership has been established to promote the interests of businesses within Bath.
We believe it is vitally important that our politicians understand the wide range of issues confronting businesses. I hope you will become a member of the Bath Business Partnership and through meetings with the people that influence our business community from both the political and business world that you will take the opportunity to acquaint them with your company’s positions.
You will have an opportunity to express your views on the way government treats small to medium businesses, what restricts their growth and how the future wealth generators of the country are affected by legislation.
The Bath Business Partnership will also provide an exclusive forum for companies to promote their products and services and to network with other business people to share expertise and knowledge.
We will be seeking to appoint founding patrons to the club that are successful local business people as well as local members.
For more information, please contact Léonie Spencer directly at bathbusinesspartnership@gmail.com

There are 4 high quality dinners per year in Bath. These will be held at prestigious locations. Club membership includes all food and drink with no extra charge, and the menus and bar are of a high standard commensurate with members inviting their clients, family or personal guests. There is no fundraising of any nature at the dinners.
We have agreements from a number of high profile speakers from the political and business world to attend future dinners. These include:
11th May Dinner - Chris Skidmore - Member of Parliament (MP) for Kingswood, South Gloucestershire and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. He is a regular guest on BBC political programmes, such as The Daily Politics, and sits on the Commons Select Committee on Education.
September 2017 - To be announced
December 2017 - To be announced
It would be helpful to know who our members would find it useful to hear from so we can take this into account when planning  future speakers.
There is always plenty of time to ask questions and have discussions with our attending guests and politicians. There will be opportunities to sponsor dinners and become a patron.
All proceeds after the costs of the events etc. go to Bath Conservative Association. We really believe that the Conservative Party is the Party for Business, and are very proud of this.
