Git for aspiring developers and data scientists (workshop)
Bath Machine Learning Meetup
7pm - 9pm

- Have you heard of Git/GitHub and want to know how to use it?
- Are you tired of naming your files SuperImportantDocument-Malcolm-Reynolds-v03-December-2017-FINAL.txt?
- Do you want to get a job where you write code?
- Have you ever accidentally lost your work because it was deleted or changed in Dropbox etc.?
- Do you want to contribute code, documentation, data etc. to Bath-ML's public repositories?

Then this event is for you.

Git is the de facto industry standard version control system, and as such is a tool most professionals in a technical role need to be comfortable with (don't worry if this went over your head - we'll cover all that during this event!). This event is *for beginners*, and we will cover the fundamental Git concepts from scratch. By the end of the event you will know enough about Git and GitHub to:
- Contribute to open source projects
- Start building your own portfolio of your work on GitHub
- Ask for reviews of your work from your team and review other people's work using pull requests

We will cover:
- The basics of Git using the command line
- How to synchronise your work with your team using a public repository (Github)
- If time, we'll also explore and demo a graphical user interface (GUI) for Git

Bring a laptop to follow along. Install Git for your operating system from https://git-scm.com/downloads before the event to save time. (Windows users: please DO install git-bash)

If you struggle with anything before the event, ping Roger (kinbiko) a message on our Slack server.
To get an invite to our Slack server, enter your email address here: https://bathml.herokuapp.com/

This is for beginners who have some very basic command line experience. The reason we're using the command line instead of a graphical user interface is to limit exposure to the more advanced concepts in Git and to ensure that you can more easily google any issues you have (GUIs tend to use lingo different to the proper Git terminology). If you're not super confident using a command line, check out this article which covers everything you'll need for this event and no more: https://kinbiko.com/shell/basic-bash-commands/

Please feel free to bring guests if you know anyone who you think would be interested.

This event is strictly speaking not Machine Learning-oriented, but the material covered will be useful for contributing to our parking projects. (Hint: major event coming up where knowing Git would be advantageous!)
Free English Lessons
7:30pm - 9pm

OTGE FREE ENGLISH COURSE with qualified English teachers to help you
This is a chance for people from countries (not the UK) to meet with others in the same position as them, to learn more English: improving pronunciation, gaining confidence speaking, learning new grammar and vocabulary. It is a relaxed, informal classroom setting with qualified teachers. This friendly group enables people to connect with others, find friends and have fun while getting better at English.
It is called Open to God English (OTGE) because it is run by people from St Saviour's Church and we use stories from the Bible as part of the lesson. We also have a theme, worksheets, games, and learn pronunciation through the Colour Vowel Chart. Individual help is given to students who need it during the lesson and we encourage people to ask questions.
If you are interested in joining the class,  just come along on the night and try it for yourself. Each lesson you will learn new things. There is a break for a hot drink and cake/biscuits for 15 minutes in the middle, so you can get to know the other students.
Once a term we have a social - eating a meal together or visiting somewhere interesting in Bath.
“I would like to thank you for your wonderful English lessons, your hard work, support and friendship” Ania
“It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about religious texts, correct pronunciation, for learning of language games, different topics.” Raia
“This course has helped me improve my pronunciation and also given me the opportunity to meet people from different countries” Claire
“Very helpful! A good way of learning English in a relaxed atmosphere. Bravo to the teachers who are volunteers, they do a really good job! They pay attention to every student. The thing I most like is the friendly atmosphere within the group and the tea break!”   Najeeb
Whatever your level - beginner or advanced, you are welcome to come along and start at any point in the course. We have a different theme each week - in the coming weeks we are doing: Friends and Family, Gardens and Plants, Emergencies, Animals and Birds. Further lessons are planned from 21st Feb to 21st March and through the summer term too.
The lessons are held in the upstairs classroom on the first floor at St Saviour's Church (in the door and up the stairs to the left) There is a lift for disabled access.
If you can't come every week - that's OK - come when you can. These lessons have helped many students become more fluent and confident in English and we can help you too.
Everyone is welcome: whatever faith you have or if you have no faith. There is an extra half hour from 9.00 to 9.30 (Open to God Extra) where we talk together about the Bible passage and discuss spirituality and different religions. This is optional, so students do not need to stay for this if they do not want to.
We look forward to meeting you :)

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
For adults at any level of English. Enquire with the organisers about older teenagers as sometimes they are permitted.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
There is a bus service from town - ask for St Saviour's Church or the Balustrade on London Rd.
Car parking is available on the roads around the church and is free - no restrictions. It is generally a safe area to walk at night.
What can I bring into the event?
A notebook and pen. Cake or biscuits if you want. The course if FREE.
How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Free Meditation & Yoga – just show up–we start on Wednesday in Bath 7.30pm
Free Meditation & Yoga Bath
7:30pm - 9pm

Hello there! - We'd like to welcome you to Free weekly meetings hosted by Michael, Bernard which take place at the:

John Williams Room (2nd Floor), United Reformed Church Halls, Grove St, Bath, BA2 6PJ,

on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm until 9.00pm

With Sahaja Yoga Meditation we normally sit on chairs to achieve yoga, effortlessly & spontaneously. No Mats or special clothing required.

All across the globe, many are seeking new sources of energy. Meanwhile, the most transformative energy of all is hiding in plain sight, within us. It's natural, sustainable, and infinitely renewable. It's called inner kundalini energy. And everyone already has it — everyone!. It is often likened to an inner feminine or motherly energy which automatically knows about us and what is needed to help us restore balance and harmony within our subtle being. It works spontaneously, effortlessly, organically and cannot be paid for.

Sahaja Yoga Meditation is a simple time-honoured technique that lets you tap into that energy and harness its power to become better balanced and better connected to yourself — emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.

If you're having trouble juggling the challenges in your life, Sahaja Yoga Meditation might well help you manage stress, master your emotions and find solutions to your problems. You may enjoy better health, better focus, and a deeper understanding of the universe and your place in it.

Meditation is not just for mystics and monks. Sahaja Yoga meditation is for everyone. Anyone can do it. It's that easy. But with the Sahaja Yoga experience, you'll quickly realise, it isn't your typical Meditations 'R Us type class. It's much more than just feeling peaceful and relaxed. Sahaja Yoga Meditation has many layers, varied and deep. Explore at your own pace, in your own way. Our volunteer experts are always available to help.

Ready to plug into your inner energy? A Sahaja Yoga Meditation class is a great way to start. A few minutes of your life may be all it takes to connect to your inner energy and light the path to lifelong transformation. Sahaja Yoga is more than a temporary solution or quick relief — it is a journey, rather than a destination. It's all about energy — guaranteed pure and carbon neutral. You can never have too much of it.

The best part? All classes are free. No strings, no catch.
Everyone is welcome. Bring a friend, bring your self — all are welcome.

We have a web site here in London too which you can visit for more info about weekly meetings: www.sahajayogalondon.co.uk
