Welcome to another Creative Bath Business Breakfast! Our February event will take place on Tuesday 6th Feb at The Igloo. Many thanks to the Abbey Hotel, who are kindly sponsoring this event. The Creative Bath Business Breakfasts provide an important forum for senior-level discussion about current opportunities and challenges in our sector. They run monthly and are an excellent opportunity for networking, as well as round table discussion.Please note: this invitation is open to owners of local creative companies and senior managers; and to our Strategic and Anchor Partners. Finance Essentials for Business Owners

If you find business finance and forecasting daunting or want to understand what your bookkeeper or accountant is telling you, this workshop is for you.
During the course of the morning we will explore areas of business finance such as cash flow, profit and loss accounts, forecasting and bookkeeping. With experienced business advisors on hand you will complete simple exercises to help you develop your skills and knowledge so you don't get bamboozled by your accountant, but more importantly so you can manage your business’s finances and understand where you might be able to improve your profitability.
During the second part of the session we will look at what happens if you do not have enough cash in your business and where you might go to raise more, including how to understand what is right for your particular business.
By the end of the workshop you will 
•          Have an understanding of simple business financial terminology
•          Understand the importance of and difference between cash & profit
•          To be able to set up and complete a simple cash flow
•          To be able to complete simple bookkeeping tasks & understand the importance of financial record keeping

Bath Treasure Hunt with 20% off at the finishing Treasure (the pub)

The Great Game is a daily exciting Treasure Hunt that you do on your own time when ever you want around the beautiful City of Bath. Upon purchasing your ticket please email info@ggtreasurehunts.com to redeem. There a different tickets for different groups of people. 
Single route - for 1-2 people or 3-4 people is great for seeing the sights and using your brain.
Once the ticket is redeemed via email your treasure hunt pack will be mailed out to you so please provided your address in your email. Each pack includes discount wrist bands for each player, a clipboard, a real compass, a map, the clues sheet, a prize sheet, a brief history of Bath and a pen.
Let us know the time you wish to begin your hunt and we will book you a table at the finishing "Treasure" a historic Bath Pub steeped in History, where you will 20% off your food and drink bill.
The Hunt starts at Bath Train Station and takes roughly 2-3 hours to complete, solving clues and riddles and puzzles as you wind through Bath viewing the sites of the city and trying to find the "Treasure" - The pub, where you simply show your Treasure Hunt wrist band to the staff to get your 20% discount on your food and drink bill.
You will be sure to have a fantastic half day or evening out!

Simon Roberts OBE, Chief Executive, Centre for Sustainable Energy 
Abstract:  It feels like everyone is talking about smart energy systems. Vital to a low carbon future, they also form a central pillar of most smart city visions. But there is a yawning gap between the rhetoric and current practice. That gap needs to be bridged if all the promised markets - for smart technologies, data analytics, control algorithms, demand response services - are to emerge and thrive. This presentation will describe work undertaken in Bristol, through the Bristol Smart Energy City Collaboration, and London, with the Greater London Authority, to build that bridge, exploring the technical, regulatory, commercial and socio-cultural challenges involved and mapping the steps needed to create the conditions in which smart energy works.
Biography:  Simon Roberts OBE is Chief Executive of the Bristol-based national charity the Centre for Sustainable Energy (www.cse.org.uk). He has been helping people, organisations and policy makers develop effective responses to the threat of climate change and the misery of cold homes for more than 30 years. He describes the Bristol Smart Energy City Collaboration, which he set up in 2015, as the most intellectually challenging project he’s ever undertaken.

We are delighted that Sue Cowley has agree to deliver a keyonte presentation. Sue is an experienced teacher, writer and presenter, whose specialisms are in the areas of behaviour management and creative teaching and learning.  She is the best selling author of more than twenty five books for teachers and parents, including Getting the Buggers to Behave, Teaching Skills for Dummies and How to Survive your First Year in Teaching. She is a contributor to the TES and has been a judge for the early years section of the annual TES Awards for the past three years.

The theme for this next meetup is looking at the risks and threats posed by insecure systems and websites. Harry Metcalfe is the Founder / MD of dxw (http://dxw.com) which build online services for public sector bodies. Harry is also non-executive director of the Open Rights Group (http://www.openrightsgroup.org), a campaign for digital civil liberties. Harry will be looking at the practical steps you can take to feel confident in what you create and use online remain secure, and in particular considerations for Wordpress website security.

Ed Geraghty is a Technologist at Privacy International (https://privacyinternational.org/). Ed is responsible for Privacy International's technical security and research, and leads the development of their open-source security and auditing framework "ThornSec". As part of his role, he is responsible for tech engagement with PI's International Network of NGOs and charities in the Global South, who he trains in threat modelling, risk assessment, digital security, and implementing organisational security practices including rolling out ThornSec. Ed will be looking at the key risks and threats for charity organisations.

We plan also to take more time than usual to allow for networking and for specific breakout conversations to take place. As always please do spread the word and encourage more charity and voluntary organisations to come along, we are here to support you!
