An Introduction to the new General Data Protection Regulation (£5 for Bath BID levy payers)
Eventbrite.co.uk
9:30am - 11:30am

You may have heard about this new regulation in the press. All businesses need to make sure that they are completely up to date with the new requirements. The penalties for failing to have your data in order are significant and represent a financial risk to your business. There is a lot of information online (here is a link to the Wikipedia info) and it is very confusing.
The workshop will include:
·         An Introduction to the Key Elements of the GDPR
·         Risk Management and Prioritisation Discussion
·         Engaging staff at all levels
The event will highlight why GDPR is a business opportunity, as well as pointing out the heavily publicised penalties, and how any business can take the changes in their stride. As an interactive workshop the aim is for participants to leave with a better understanding of GDPR and knowing what the key next steps are for their business.
The event is only £5 to attend for Bath BID levy payers.  If you have not received details of the discount code directly, please give us a call 01225 430640 and we will make sure you get access to the discount.

Chakras and Essential Oils
Bath Healthy & Happy Meetup
10:30am - 12:30pm

• What we'll do
Chakra is a Sanskrit word meaning disk or wheel. According to yogic tradition chakras are major centres of life energy in the human body through which energy is exchanged to and from the universal energy field. There are 7 major chakras aligned vertically along the spine from the coccyx to the top of the head, and although the chakras cannot be found in the physical body, their energy envelops the organs and glands in their proximity, influencing the health of those organs. When energy is not free to flow to and from the chakras both physical and psychological symptoms will emerge.

In this talk you will learn the principles of the chakra system, the physiological and psychological correspondences of each chakra and how to balance the energy flow through them for optimal health using a simple guided meditation and a combination of essential oils.

Ottavia Mazzoni is a crystal and energy healer with several years of experience. She works intuitively using an integrated approach combining Reiki channeling, the subtle energy of crystals and essential oils to address imbalances in the physical, emotional and spiritual body of her clients. She finds that essential oils strengthen and deepen the healing properties of crystals, often bringing about a faster resolution of energy blockages. Ottavia works from her home in Box and from Neal’s Yard in Bath.

We will be meeting upstairs in The Elder Rooms. Tickets are £5 and include a cuppa.

Any questions then please email [masked] or call Tanya on 07557337363.

Dairy Council Seminar: Dairy protein consumption to support active and healthy ageing
Eventbrite.co.uk
1pm - 2pm

We are delighted to host Dr Ben Wall from the University of Exeter to deliver a Dairy Council Seminar entitled: "Dairy protein consumption to support active and healthy ageing" on 8th February at 13:00 in 6 West 1.1 (highlighted by the red circle on the map). Entry is free, but please register online for a free ticket to track anticipated numbers.
Profile
Dr. Benjamin Wall graduated from the University of Birmingham in Sport and Exercise Sciences in 2006 before taking up a PhD position in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Nottingham. Benjamin’s PhD research was conducted in the laboratory of Professor Paul Greenhaff, and the work examined the integration of fat and carbohydrate metabolism during exercise in humans. In 2010, Benjamin moved to Maastricht University in the Netherlands to undertake post-doctoral training under the guidance of Professor Luc van Loon. This research focused on the mechanisms underlying muscle loss under varying conditions (e.g. ageing, inactivity) or muscle gain in response to anabolic stimuli (e.g. exercise training). Moreover, a key emphasis was placed on developing nutritional- and/or exercise-based strategies to attenuate muscle loss or augment muscle hypertrophy in a variety of situations, with an ultimate goal of improving health and/or performance in different populations. Benjamin joined the School of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Exeter in 2014 as a Lecturer in exercise physiology and nutrition, and his current research focusses on the role of (in)activity and nutrition in health and performance.

Abstract
Given our ageing population, the loss of skeletal muscle mass and quality (sarcopenia), and the association with frailty, falls and metabolic disease, represents a key public health concern. Sarcopenia can be offset to a certain extent by paying close attention to dietary protein intake and maintaining/adopting an active lifestyle. Mechanistically, this is due to the synergistic effects of protein ingestion and exercise in stimulating muscle protein synthesis rates, facilitating tissue reconditioning. Emerging data have addressed the optimal type and amount of dietary protein that should be ingested by the older adult throughout the day in order to maximize the skeletal muscle adaptive response to physical activity. This seminar will discuss recent mechanistic research identifying dairy proteins as ideal protein sources to support optimal muscle protein synthesis rates in active older adults and, as a consequence, be ideally placed as dietary options to support healthy ageing.

BMA Local Event SW- Chase de Vere- NHS Pensions Taxation Update for Middle Grade and Senior Doctors- For Consultants, SAS a
Eventbrite.co.uk
5:30pm - 7:30pm

Seminar: Pensions Taxation Update for Consultants, GPs and SAS Doctors

The full gravity of the government’s recent change to the annual pension savings allowance may soon hit home for many doctors.
In early October, those who have paid more into their pension(s) than the allowance permits may well have received unwelcome news from the NHS Pension Agency, confirming they have a tax liability. No word from the NHS Agency does not mean no tax issue.
The Agency only knows about your NHS earnings and not your private earnings, from private practice or from investments or rental property say. Now that the annual allowance is tapered based on your total taxable earnings, you may well have a problem.
 Agenda

Over sixty minutes we will explain what has changed and how to work out if you are affected. We will talk over the options available to those who breach the allowance; and show you different ways to manage your pension contributions in the future.
We will look at how you could minimise and potentially avoid the annual allowance tax charge altogether.  There will also be a consideration of another pensions taxation aspect - the lifetime allowance. We will review what this is, what this means for you and what can be done to mitigate its impact.
You’ll also be able to ask the presenters any questions that you have on these important topics.
 Date:                Thursday 8th February 2018
Venue:              Royal United Hospital, Bath- Postgraduate Centre
Timings:           17.30 Welcome and refreshments;
18.00 to 19.15 presentation & questions to follow

Registration
The seminar is free to attend and you are very welcome to bring a guest.  Places are limited and we expect demand to be high so register your attendance now to avoid disappointment.  Please register via Eventbrite
