Owen Smith MP - Can we stop Brexit?
Eventbrite.co.uk
11:30am - 1pm

Bath for Europe are delighted to present Rt Hon Owen Smith MP, speaking in Bath for the first time.
Owen Smith has been the Welsh Labour MP for Pontypridd since 2010 and has served in a number of Frontbench roles including: Shadow Wales Office Minister; Shadow Health Minister; Shadow Treasury Minister and Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
His vocal support for remaining in the Single Market and his calls for a referendum on the final Brexit deal led to his sacking from the Labour front bench in March this year.  However, he continues to speak up for his views from the back benches, and stress the importance of honouring the Good Friday Agreement.
"Given that it is increasingly obvious that the promises the Brexiters made to the voters ... are never going to be honoured, we have the right to keep asking if Brexit remains the right choice for the country. And to ask, too, that the country has a vote on whether to accept the terms, and true costs of that choice, once they are clear." (Guardian, 23/03/2018)
We have asked him to speak to us about all things Brexit, and his special knowledge of the relationship with Northern Ireland is sure to be riveting.  Bring your questions and look forward to an insightful session.

The Conscious and The Subconscious Mind
Bath Meditation Group
2pm - 4pm

This Meetup will also run in Bristol earlier in the day: https://www.meetup.com/Bath-Yoga-Meetup/events/250843365/

We are all aware of the role the subconscious mind plays in our lives. It is the subconscious that decides our attitudes, habits and traits, and it often overrides our conscious mind. It is also observed that logic and understanding don't work on the subconscious. A few simple insights into this aspect of the self can make our lives more rich.

In this talk, aspects of the mind and subconscious mind will be explored; its emotions, personalities, thoughts and attitudes. Attempts will be made to take practical steps to make our inner lives richer and the mind more noble.

“The subconscious mind makes no distinction between constructive and destructive thought impulses. It works with the material we feed it, through our thought impulses. The subconscious mind will translate into reality a thought driven by fear, just as readily as it will translate into reality a thought driven by courage or faith.” Anonymous

Facilitator: Prashant Kakoday
Prashant is based in Cambridge and has a background in surgery and integrated health. His main interest is in the relationship between the psyche, emotions, behaviour and health. He has spoken on these subjects in many countries and institutions, including the WHO and the Medical Teaching Programme in the USA.

Pencil To Paint: Apr - Jun 2018
Eventbrite.co.uk
18th April - 13th June

“I think that painting today is pure intuition and luck.”
Francis Bacon on Matthew Smith (1909-1992)
For most of us, our relationship with art begins with a line. We take a pencil or a crayon and delineate our idea. In our enthusiasm, we may even attempt to colour it in. In the experience of many, that attempt leads only to disappointment. We know that a painting is more than just a coloured-in drawing, but how do we do it? What exactly is the difference?
This course explores the gulf between drawing and painting and then seeks to provide a bridge between the two disciplines. Beginning with simple pencil studies, we will then develop our work in both charcoal and ink, gaining confidence in our abilities, before embarking on five weeks of painting in bold colour.
This course is open to all-comers and is ideal for beginners or those who wish to take their art in a new direction.
The theme for this particular 8 week Pencil To Paint course will be abstraction and we will look at how form, gesture and emotion all play their part in successful picture-making, regardless of genre.
Topics will include:
Mark-making
Line, measurement and proportion
Notān
Colour: theory and mixing
Tables and chairs and a roll of newsprint paper are provided. Please bring a drawing board, paper or pad and your preferred drawing media. Materials required for sessions using colour will be discussed nearer the time.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available for a small donation.
16:30 - 18:00
Wednesdays:  18, 25 April; 02, 09, 23, 30 May; 06, 13 June (8 x 1.5 hour sessions)
