How Stories Find Us - a creative writing adventure in Bath
Eventbrite.co.uk
10am - 4pm

Stories are all around us. In our own lives. In the news. In the streets we walk.  The books we read.  The conversations we overhear.
In this one-day workshop we will look at how writers see the world. How to find the components of stories in our own experiences and observations, and how to piece these components together, using writers' craft and our imagination.
We will look at both conventional stories and more inventive forms of narrative. Come expecting to write, talk, think, and see both writing and the world around you with fresh eyes.

Jeremy Gavron

Jeremy Gavron is the author of seven books, including The Book of Israel, which won the Encore Award, and A Woman on the Edge of Time, a memoir about his mother's suicide, which was shortlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize and was a book of the year in the Observer and the Times.

His new novel, Felix Culpa (Scribe, 2018), is composed mostly of lines from a hundred other works of literature.

He has taught writing in a prison, a hospice and at University College London.  For the last eight years he has been teaching fiction on a Master of Fine Arts in the United States.

Venue
This full-day workshop takes place a stone's throw from the Abbey and the River Avon in the inspirational World Heritage City of Bath in Somerset.
The Guild is an elegant and accessible venue adjoining both the Guildhall and the Victoria Art Gallery - five minutes walk from Bath Spa station and perfectly located for making the most of the city's cafés, bars, shops and restaurants.

The workshop will take place in The Library - a light, airy and appropriately named room for a writing workshop.

Schedule
Saturday, 30th June 2018

This full-day workshop runs between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.  We will break for lunch when you can expect to carry out a writing exercise in one of Bath's cafés or bars.

Bonus extras!

Join us at 7pm on Saturday evening for a social get-together in one of Bath's characterful eateries to chat with your fellow writers about the day, the city, your writing projects - whatever you like.  There is no extra charge for the evening & no obligation to attend (but we hope you will!) - just pay for whatever you eat & drink.

And if you're able to stay over and make the most of your visit to Bath, why not strike while the iron's hot and join us back in The Guild on Sunday morning for some quiet writing time with coffee and pastries provided.  With  over 3,500 square feet of workspace  there are plenty of quiet corners, desks, sofas and beanbags where you can capitalise on your inspiration.  Again, there is no extra charge for this untutored session.

Full joining instructions will be provided when you buy your place.
This event is limited to 15 places.
