Bath OCTOBER Veggie/Vegan Social :)
Bristol & West Vegetarians & Vegans
6:30pm - 11pm

Hi everyone,

This is a monthly evening get together in Bath for members of the group who live in the Bath area or just fancy a night out here! :)

These get togethers will be on a week night and be an informal evening where members can turn up at any time and stay as long as you like from 6.30 PM to 11.00PM. Whilst they will not be formal sit down meal occasions, I will choose venues where vegan/veggie food can be purchased if you wish to grab something to eat. The idea is to get together for a drink and a chat and hopefully meet some like- minded people and new friends!

OCTOBER MEET UP -

The Cosy Club, Bath

This month we are back to one of my favourite venues in Bath - The Cosy Club! With it's vintage style decor, lovely and friendly staff, and a separate full vegan menu, as well as a central location very close to bus and train stations, the Cosy makes for a great social night out.

Check it out here!

Hope to see you there :)

English Wine Dinner
Eventbrite.co.uk
7:30pm - 10:30pm

Bolney’s story began in 1972 when owners and founders, Janet and Rodney Pratt planted three acres of vines to create what was then only the sixth commercial vineyard in England. Sam Linter, Rodney and Janet’s daughter, took over the reins in the mid-1990s. Under Sam’s leadership, Winemakers Liz Garrett and Alex Rabagliati combine their knowledge and expertise to create award-winning wine.
The Estate is located on the edge of the South Downs, about 14 miles from the UK's south coast, and comprises of five unique vineyard sites. The vines were re-planted in 2002-2005, being replaced when they reach 35-40 years of age. One vine produces enough grapes for 1-3 bottles of wine. The Estate specialises in producing premium red, white, rose and sparkling English wines that have won numerous awards, and gained lots of fans, all over the world.
The event includes:

Arrival drink with canapés at 7.30pm
A four-course meal at 8.00pm
Matching wine flight to accompany each course
Coffee and petit fours

The Bath & Bristol Everything Meetup Group

Hi,

Badminton is booked for 8:00pm on Thursday 18th October at Kingsdown Sports Centre, Portland Street, BS2 8HL. All are welcome, it's a 60 minute long session and we may head to a nearby pub afterwards.

Please let us know if you are going to attend by Wednesday at the latest. we would prefer that we have at least 4 players, otherwise we may cancel the booking.

Note: When arriving at reception you will need to say that you're attending a badminton session booked by Nicholas. Also, they may require that you to sign up for a (free) Everyone Active membership.

Nicholas /
Matt ([masked])

FAQ

Q: How does it work?
A: It's pretty informal, but we would like to know in advance if you are going to attend. (If, by the day before the booking, fewer than 4 people say they are going, we may cancel the booking.) On the day, just turn up in the sports hall with your kit at the booked time and we'll play as many games as we can in the time, rotating through the available players after each one. Usually we play doubles up to 11 points, but this can vary depending on the number of players. Afterwards, we often go to a nearby pub afterwards for a drink and a chat.

Q: How often do you play?
A: Usually every two weeks.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Between £1 and £5 per session, depending on how many people turn up, but usually between £1.50 and £2.50.

Q: What is the standard of play?
A: This is hard to specify, but it's mixed and generally not high, so a novice shouldn't find it too challenging.

Q: How many courts are booked?
A: Only one court is booked, but if there are more than 4 people we play to 11 points (rather than the usual 21) to allow waiting players to get a game more often.

Q: Who can attend?
A: It is open to all (and usually has a combination of men and women). Come along and see if it suits you.

Q: I'm new to the group, how can I find you?
A: Sometimes the expected court number will be specified in advance, otherwise if you don't fancy asking around, you can let us know you'll be coming and we can arrange to meet you.

Q: What parking facilities are there?
A: The sports centre has its own car parks and there is usually on-street parking nearby. There are also bicycle stands outside the entrance.

Q: Can I just turn up for the pub afterwards?
A: Of course, though we don't always go and the choice of pub can vary so it's best to let us know in advance.

Q: Do I need my own racquet?
A: Preferably, though you can hire one from the sports centre (currently for £2 with £5 deposit). For newcomers, someone may be able to bring a spare on request.

Q: What rules do you play with?
A: We usually play using 'rally point scoring', i.e. points are scored regardless of who serves, and when the serving side loses a rally, the serve changes immediately to the opponents. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Badminton#Scoring_system_and_service.

So come along and join other imperfect parents on a Wednesday evening for coffee, homemade cakes and chat.
The course is brought to you by the Families Ministry of Holy Trinity Church Combe Down. Course co-ordinator Mrs Sharon Blair has years of experience in supporting families. She is joined by presenters Nicky Coutier and Rachel Stewart.

Pencil To Paint: Sep - Dec 2018
Eventbrite.co.uk
26th September - 5th December

“I think that painting today is pure intuition and luck.”
Francis Bacon on Matthew Smith (1909-1992)
For most of us, our relationship with art begins with a line. We take a pencil or a crayon and delineate our idea. In our enthusiasm, we may even attempt to colour it in. In the experience of many, that attempt leads only to disappointment. We know that a painting is more than just a coloured-in drawing, but how do we do it? What exactly is the difference?
This course explores the gulf between drawing and painting and then seeks to provide a bridge between the two disciplines. Beginning with simple pencil studies, we will then develop our work in both charcoal and ink, gaining confidence in our abilities, before embarking on five weeks of painting in bold colour.
This course is open to all-comers and is ideal for beginners or those who wish to take their art in a new direction.
The theme for this particular 10 week Pencil To Paint course will be 'still life' and we will look at how artists from Caravaggio to Cezanne used tonality, form and colour to compose their paintings.
Topics will include:
Mark-making
Line, measurement and proportion
Notān
Colour: theory and mixing
Tables and chairs and a roll of newsprint paper are provided. Please bring a drawing board, paper or pad and your preferred drawing media. Materials required for sessions using colour will be discussed nearer the time.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available for a small donation.
