7pm - 10:30pm

Do you like live comedy... then why not join me for the final 'Gladiator' event of 2018, at Walcot House in Bath, slightly earlier in the month than the usual last Friday of the month.

Because of the revised date, I can not host this event, so I'm looking for a volunteer to stand-in for me...? and if you offer, you get free entry on the night. :-)

This is a very well renowned and unique comedy night competition.

Usually competitions are judged by industry experts but this is judged by you the ticket paying audience. Each act gets up to 8 minutes to impress you, their fate is in your hands.

Up to 8 acts compete for your vote, hosted by compere Sal Monello plus a top circuit headlining act. This month its Al Lubel. Check him out at:-

Cost of entry is £8 for Meet-Up members, if you buy your ticket from me in advance, or its £10 on the door.

Food is available at the venue, if you fancy eating before the event, but you have to book your own table at:-

After the comedy... stay and gain free entry to the main room to enjoy the resident DJ's until 3am on Saturday. So come join me and support live comedy in Bath at this great venue... if you have not been to Walcot House before... come along to this event and find out for yourself. :-)

The Square
Eventbrite.co.uk
7:30pm - 10:30pm

The Square is a 2017 satirical drama film written and directed by Ruben Östlund and starring Claes Bang, Elisabeth Moss, Dominic West and Terry Notary. The film is about a curator (Bang) who struggles with various personal issues, including the theft of his mobile phone and affair with a journalist (Moss). Amid these distractions, a controversial promotional video for an art installation is published without his oversight, threatening his career and sparking a debate about freedom of expression and political correctness.
A Swedish production with co-production support from Germany, France and Denmark, the film was shot in Gothenburg, Stockholm and Berlin. The story was partly inspired by an installation Östlund and producer Kalle Boman had made. Östlund was also inspired by a notorious incident involving Oleg Kulik and cast Notary in a parody, drawing on Notary's experience imitating apes.
The film was entered into the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, where it received positive reviews and won the Palme d'Or. It was subsequently selected for the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. It went on to win six European Film Awards, including Best Film; two Guldbagge Awards, including Best Director; and other honours. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 90th Academy Awards.

Long Running Events:

Pencil To Paint: Sep - Dec 2018
Eventbrite.co.uk
26th September - 5th December

“I think that painting today is pure intuition and luck.”
Francis Bacon on Matthew Smith (1909-1992)
For most of us, our relationship with art begins with a line. We take a pencil or a crayon and delineate our idea. In our enthusiasm, we may even attempt to colour it in. In the experience of many, that attempt leads only to disappointment. We know that a painting is more than just a coloured-in drawing, but how do we do it? What exactly is the difference?
This course explores the gulf between drawing and painting and then seeks to provide a bridge between the two disciplines. Beginning with simple pencil studies, we will then develop our work in both charcoal and ink, gaining confidence in our abilities, before embarking on five weeks of painting in bold colour.
This course is open to all-comers and is ideal for beginners or those who wish to take their art in a new direction.
The theme for this particular 10 week Pencil To Paint course will be 'still life' and we will look at how artists from Caravaggio to Cezanne used tonality, form and colour to compose their paintings.
Topics will include:
Mark-making
Line, measurement and proportion
Notān
Colour: theory and mixing
Tables and chairs and a roll of newsprint paper are provided. Please bring a drawing board, paper or pad and your preferred drawing media. Materials required for sessions using colour will be discussed nearer the time.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available for a small donation.

Wednesdays:  26 September; 03, 10, 17, 24 ,October; 07, 14, 21, 28 November; 05 December  - 10 x 1.5 hour sessions)
