Managing teams, successfully
1pm - 5pm

Our 1/2-day training module provides new and developing managers with relevant knowledge and skills to manage themselves and their team in the real world.  We also consider the 'voice of experience' and some 'tricks of the trade'.

You will be able to immediately improve your approach and performance as a manager. You will feel more informed and able to do your job. The likelihood of you making avoidable mistakes decreases.

Thus you will feel more knowledgeable, able and confident.  Your business and team will be more confident, efficient and effective.

The module covers:
a. The relativity of management and leadership
b. The benefits of process, and some process tools to implement immediately
c. Common management tools (and how to use them), including elements of project management and time management
d. Key management techniques and some relevant leadership tricks - that can be implemented immediately

2 quick promises:
1. The module is not a case of ‘death by PowerPoint’. There is interactive activity, and skills are taught using things other than a computer.
2. Although oriented towards people in commercial organisations, the content is generic in nature so it should be applicable to people from many walks of life.

Discover the magic of Spring bulbs!
6pm - 8pm

Welcome to our first event of 2018!
As we wave farewell to Winter, we celebrate all things fresh, new and botanical for our Spring event.  Flowers bring an instant refresh to any interiors space, but Spring bulbs - the buried treasure of the garden - also herald an end to dark winter days, bringing a welcome splash of colour when few other plants are in flower.
Florist Elisabeth Anderson of Amamini Flowers will be with us to demonstrate how to use the humble bulb to create a simple but effective display for your home; Elisabeth is truly passionate about what she does and delights in finding unusual or overlooked flowers and foliage that give a unique twist to her work. She therefore prefers to work without using oasis, which many don't realise is made from a plastic that is non biodegradable, instead focussing on using natural materials such as moss, twigs and other foliage, cut from her own garden or foraged from the countryside.
Arrangements will be available to purchase on the night at a specially discounted price of £15 a piece ( RRP £20) and we have lots of other goodies in store to tempt you too!  A fun learning experience for anyone and everyone.

Pencil To Paint: Feb - Mar 2018
21st February - 28th March

“I think that painting today is pure intuition and luck.”
Francis Bacon on Matthew Smith (1909-1992)
For most of us, our relationship with art begins with a line. We take a pencil or a crayon and delineate our idea. In our enthusiasm, we may even attempt to colour it in. In the experience of many, that attempt leads only to disappointment. We know that a painting is more than just a coloured-in drawing, but how do we do it? What exactly is the difference?
This course explores the gulf between drawing and painting and then seeks to provide a bridge between the two disciplines. Beginning with simple pencil studies, we will then develop our work in both charcoal and ink, gaining confidence in our abilities, before embarking on five weeks of painting in bold colour.
This course is open to all-comers and is ideal for beginners or those who wish to take their art in a new direction.
Topics will include:
Line, measurement and proportion
Tonal value
Colour: theory and mixing
Tables and chairs and a roll of newsprint paper are provided. Please bring a drawing board, paper or pad and your preferred drawing media. Materials required for sessions using colour will be discussed nearer the time.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available for a small donation.
16:30 - 18:00
Wednesdays:  21, 28 February; 7, 14, 21, 28 March 2018
